Ok, the stability control is disabled by the computer when the check engine light is set for one of around 250 fault codes. There is no way to enable the stability control until the reason for the check engine light is diagnosed and repaired.Abs light stays on but brakes are fine. It means the ABS function of brake system is disabled. The brakes work but their is no automatic function to prevent brake lockup on wet or icy roads. If your vehicle is equipped with stability control, it too will be disabled since it relies the ABS system.
